Hi,

Am am a therapist on this website and I also have my own private practice in Sydney.  Recently I have started working with clients who suffer from depression and anxiety using a relatively new therapy called Virtual Reality Therapy (VRT for short).  I am opening up a forum here for people who have been suffering and are now using VRT to help them sort out their lives.

If you or anyone you know has been having VRT sessions please encourage them to visit this forum and give me their feedback as well as their thoughts and experiences of the therapy. From my point of view it seems very helpful, as long as the client really wants to change.

There are currently 52 practitioners of VRT in Australia and that number is growing.  So it would be very helpful to see if we can find a way to come together and support each other while experiencing the VRT treatments.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Toni

Hi Toni,

What you are describing sounds similar to a therapy i encountered called Theta healing. Theta healing was developed by a pratitioner called Vianna Stibal. It's main focus is accessing a theta brainwave state and working on core programs and belief systems by 'downloading' new positive affirmations and canceling old downloads that are like faulty computer programs running the show. It is non invasive and appears to achieve good results in a short amount of time compared with more traditional psychoanalytic approaches. However, theta healing does require a belief in a 'creator' which may not work for some if philosophically they are reluctant to accept the concept. I had a session called subconsious ascension which is a 2 hour guided meditation with these positive downloads and it did work wonders for me...more than years of psychotherapy managed. I am currently studying counselling so would be interested to learn more about VRT and its application to therapy.

Cheers

DS

Hi DS,

VRT is actually a like hypnotherapy & counselling rolled into one.  There are over 7 different therapies used during the "visualisation" stage of the session, including colour therapy, CBT, binaural beats, visual and narrative metaphors, biophilia and body language just to name a few.  During VRT electromagnetic activity in the brain declines & thinking is narrowly selectively focused on a single concept.  The clients focus is withdrawn from the "reality" and awareness is internalised.  So it is a bit different from what you mentioned.  Also there is no mention of God or creator or higher power.

If you would like to know more please feel free to have a look at the website www.virtualmedicine.com.au.  There is lots of information there for you as well as where to find a practitioner.  I am based in the south of Sydney but there are practitioners all around Australia as this is Ozzie designed & has had many clinical trials in the hospital system in Victoria.

I hope that helps & feel free to continue contact with me.

Cheers,  Toni
